Multiple schools in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday, May 6, received bomb threats through email, prompting swift action by the police.

The threat e-mails were sent to the schools reportedly from a Russian domain ‘mail.ru’. SWAT teams of Ahmedabad Police as well as the bomb disposal squads are said to be carrying out precautionary checks.
This comes after over 100 schools in Delhi-NCR received bomb threats over e-mails last Wednesday. After the incident, students and all staff members were evacuated from campuses.
The mail sent to the schools in Delhi-NCR originated from a server located in Russia, investigation agencies said.
The anti-terror unit of Delhi Police later traced the domain of emails to Russia and suspected it to have been formed through the help of the dark web, which is an encrypted online content that helps people to hide their identity and location from others.
The email ID used to send these threat emails to schools was ‘sawariim@mail.ru’, a police official said, adding that Sawarim is an Arabic word which has been extensively used by Islamic State (IS) in their propaganda videos in the past several years.
As per reports, the Delhi Police is expected to approach Russia with a judicial request in this case. Police have also approached the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) via the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to seek assistance. India’s CBI is the designated agency that coordinates with INTERPOL.
