International Dance Day 2024 History:
International Dance Day was first observed in 1982. The International Theatre Institute (ITI), in collaboration with UNESCO Performing Arts, established this day to promote various forms of dance globally. Since then, the day is marked on April 29 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.
The day has been celebrated annually in over 200 countries and the day intends to unite people through dance as a common language, celebrate dance and its universality, and cross all the political, cultural, and ethnic barriers.
International Dance Day 2024 Significance
Dance has played a significant role in human culture and history for ages and this day serves as a special occasion to come together and celebrate its diversity and beauty.
World Dance Day is celebrated globally with dancers from all ethnic and social backgrounds coming together for dance performances, workshops, conferences, and other events.
“Every year a message from an outstanding choreographer or dancer is circulated worldwide. The International Dance Committee of ITI and the Executive Council of ITI select the message’s author. The message is translated into numerous languages and circulated globally,” said the official website of International Dance Day.
The following are the goals of the event as stated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI):
– Promote dance in all its forms worldwide.
– Raise awareness among the people about the value of dance and its forms.
– Enable the dance community to promote their art on a broad scale to make governments and opinion leaders aware of the value and importance of dance in all its forms and support it.
– Enjoy and appreciate the dance in all its forms.
– Share the joy of dance with others and cross all the barriers
International Dance Day 2024 Theme
A new theme is dedicated every year to celebrate this occasion. The theme for 2024 International Dance Day has not been announced yet. The theme for 2023 was “To celebrate the versatility and popularity of dance as an art form”.
