Actor Adil Hussain “regretted” that he acted in the 2019 film Kabir Singh and his statement has constantly made headlines. His comments drew a reaction from the film’s director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga but Hussain has since stated that he stood by his word.
How did it all start?
During an interview on the YouTube channel AP Podcast, Adil said that he didn’t read the screenplay before accepting the role in Kabir Singh. The actor said, “That’s the only film in my life that I have done without reading the script, without seeing the movie which it is based on.”
Following the film’s premiere, Adil claimed to have left the cinema after 20 minutes of viewing it.
“I regret it till today,” he added
Adil claimed he felt “small as a human being” after watching Kabir Singh, calling the movie a ‘misogynist’.
About Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the filmmaker, Adil stated that while everyone was free to create the sort of film they wanted, he was not required to share their viewpoint.
He went on to suggest that a movie such as this ‘celebrated’ something detrimental to society.
“It legitimises male misogyny.”
He noted that it legitimises violence against anybody, not just women.
He continued, “And it celebrates it, it glorifies it and it should not be glorified.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s reaction to Adil Hussain’s comment:
Vanga responded to Adil’s remarks by publicly shaming Adil for criticising the Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani-starrer.
He tweeted, “Your ‘belief’ in 30 art films didn’t get as much fame to you as your ‘regret’ of 1 BLOCKBUSTER film did. I regret casting you, knowing that your greed is bigger than your passion. NOW I’ll save you from the shame by replacing your face with AI help. Now smile properly”.

On social media, Vanga’s remark received a lot of criticism, with some calling it a “personal attack” on Adil Hussain. Additionally, he was criticised for lacking the capacity to take constructive criticism well.
Adil further reacts to Vanga’s mockery:
Responding to Sandeep’s comment, Adil told The Times of India that he was in the US and had not seen Sandeep’s post. “Neither do I intend to,” he added.
Adil clarified that his remarks on Kabir Singh were made during an interview rather than on social media. He also stated that he was genuinely ‘shocked’ when he saw the film and regretted doing so.
“I will not change my stand,” he added.
