India’s coal production records 7.41% growth in April to 78.69 MT

India’s domestic coal production climbed 7.41% year-over-year (YoY) to 78.69 million tonnes (MT) in April.
The country’s coal output was registered at 73.26 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year.
“India’s coal production for April 2024 reached 78.69 MT (Provisional), with a growth rate of 7.41% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, which was 73.26 MT,” the coal ministry said in a release.
In April 2024, Coal India Ltd (CIL) recorded a coal production of 61.78 MT (Provisional), registering a 7.31% increase as against the same period in 2023.
Additionally, coal production by captive/others last month stood at 11.43 MT (Provisional), pointing to a growth of 12.99% in comparison to the same period last year which was 10.12 MT.
The coal dispatches of the country for the month rose to 85.10 MT(Provisional), with a YoY increase of 6.07% in comparison to April 2023, when it stood at 80.23 MT.
Last month CIL dispatched 64.26 MT (Provisional) of coal with a YoY growth of 3.18%. The figure stood at 62.28 MT for the company in April 2023.
The coal dispatch by captive/others in April was recorded at 15.16 MT (Provisional), reflecting a growth of 26.90% from the previous year, which was 11.95 MT.
Moreover, the index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of February, 2024 at 139.6 is 8.0% higher as compared to the level in the month of February, 2023. For mineral production of mining and quarrying 2011-2012 is the base period (base=100).
As per the provisional statistics of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the cumulative growth for the period April-February, 2023-24 over the corresponding period of previous year is 8.2%.
