Bihar Lok Sabha elections 2024: Schedule, total seats, Congress candidates and more
Summary
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Congress, which lacks star players like Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad and Meira Kumar among others, has been allotted just nine seats in the state, as per the seat-sharing arrangement.
The growing dominance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar has coincided with the waning support for Congress. The grand old party has been restricted to just two and one seats in the state in the 2014 and 2019 polls, respectively. The Opposition’s INDIA bloc, led by Congress, suffered a big blow earlier this year when Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) parted ways with the alliance and returned to the NDA.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in Bihar from April 19 to June 1 across all seven phases. The results will be announced on June 4.
During the 2019 elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) clinched a resounding victory in the state, winning 39 of the 40 seats. While the BJP secured 17 seats, its ally JD(U) and LJP won 16 and six seats each. The ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) — Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and others — suffered a seatback and was limited to just one seat, which went to the Congress.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Congress, which lacks star players like Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad and Meira Kumar among others, has been allotted just nine seats in the state, as per the seat-sharing arrangement. Its ally Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) will field its candidates on 26 seats, leaving the remaining five for the Left parties.
