KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital, which has been built at a cost of ₹165 crores, is located in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. This 24×7 veterinary hospital has five stories will treat dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals.

Industrialist-entrepreneur Ratan Tata, who is known for his philanthropic activities on national and international levels, is now all prepared to launch his long-pending ‘pet’ project in Mumbai. Under the ‘pet’ project initiative, an animal hospital will be opened in Mumbai. According to reports, the hospital will be accessible from the first week of March.

According to a Times of India report, the project will house a hospital spread across an area of 2.2 acres. The 24×7 hospital will treat dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals.

In an exclusive interview with Times of India, Tata said, “A pet is no different from a member of one’s family today. As the guardian of several pets throughout my life, I acknowledge the need for this hospital.”

The 86-year-old industrialist also spoke about the reason behind rolling out a world-class animal hospital. He recalled the instance wherein he had to fly one of his pets to the University of Minnesota for a joint replacement. He said, “I was too late, and so they froze the dog’s joint in a certain position. That experience made me see what a world-class veterinary hospital was equipped to do,” reported TOI.

The Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital, which has been built at a cost of ₹165 crores, is located in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. This 24×7 veterinary hospital has five stories with a capacity to admit as many as 200 ‘patients’. To bring the best for the hospital, Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital has appointed Thomas Heathcote, a British veterinarian. Heathcote, who has relocated to Mumbai will be leading a team of doctors, reported Money Control.

Tata’s ‘pet’ project was announced in 2017 when the hospital was supposed to be built in the Navi Mumbai region. However, keeping the distance in mind, Tata considered moving the location a bit closer to the centre of the city. He said, “This (distance) could’ve been a major challenge for the pet parents, especially those in need of emergency services. With this in mind, finding the right space for land and getting permissions was also a reason for delay”, reported TOI.

According to its official website, there are 29 publicly listed Tata enterprises with a combined market capitalisation of $300 billion (₹24 trillion) as of July 31, 2023.

Charities

Tata Group’s primary donor to charitable endeavours was Ratanji Tata, the younger son of Jamsetji Tata. Ratanji Tata had willed a large part of his property for charitable purposes, while the Sir Ratan Tata Trust was established with a corpus of ₹80 lakh in 1919. Currently, Tata Trust stands as one of the most illustrious and established charitable foundations in India.

The main promoter of the Tata group companies is Tata Sons. Philanthropic trusts that fund charities that support health, education, the arts and culture, and other causes own 66% of the equity shares of Tata Sons.

Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group has played a pivotal role in improving healthcare and education in India.

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Besides holding a MBA degree in Finance, the caller also has a background in engineering. He is suffering from schizophrenia.

Mumbai Police on Saturday tracked down the youth who recently threatened industrialist and former Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata.

The accused is an MBA graduate and suffers from schizophrenia, ANI reported quoting Mumbai Police. According to police officials, the caller had also asked Mumbai Police to enhance the security of the Tata Group tycoon. The accused warned that if the police failed to do so, it would lead to Ratan Tata meeting the same fate as the former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry.

For the unversed, Mistry died in a car crash on September 4, 2022. The accident occurred on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai National Highway 8 near Palghar of Maharashtra while Mistry was travelling with his friends. His car, a Mercedes-Benz GLC, crashed into a road divider.

In response to the threat call, Mumbai Police went into alert mode and created a special team to offer personal security to the industrialist, while another team was assigned to investigate the information about the caller. According to ANI, the police team traced out the caller with technical support.

As per the investigators, the location of the caller was found to be in Karnataka, while the alleged caller’s residence was tracked to Pune. Following the leads, the police authorities reached his Pune residence and got to know that the alleged caller had been missing for the past five days. His wife had even filed a complaint at the Bhosari police station.

In the process of gathering information about the caller, the investigative team questioned the caller’s family and came to know that the accused was suffering from schizophrenia.

The family informed the police that the accused holds an MBA degree in Finance and has a background in engineering as well.

According to ANI, the accused had stolen a mobile phone and made the call to Mumbai Police using that phone. However, Mumbai Police has decided not to take any action against the accused due to his mental health condition.

Former chairman of the Tata Group Ratan Tata sent a “fake” alert on Wednesday accusing someone of using his name on social media to “exaggerate investment” with a 100% risk-free assurance.

In a post on Instagram, Tata called out a post from a user by the name of Sona Agrawal who used a fake interview of him in a video recommending investments. In the fake video, Tata addresses Sona Agrawal as his manager.

“A recommendation from Ratan Tata for everyone in India. This is your chance to exaggerate your investment right today risk-free with a 100% guarantee. Go to the channel right now,” read the caption of the video post.

The video also showed messages of people receiving money in their accounts. Tata wrote FAKE on the video and also on the screenshot of the caption of the video.

Earlier this week, the government met with social media intermediaries to combat the rise of deepfakes on the platforms. The platforms have been given a grace period of seven days to take concrete actions.

The rise of deepfakes, encompassing manipulated images, videos, and audio, raises concerns about their use in creating deceptive content and spreading misinformation.

There have been three times as many video deepfakes of all kinds and eight times as many voice deepfakes posted online this year compared to the same period in 2022, according to DeepMedia, a company working on tools to detect synthetic media.

Ratan Tata turns 85 today: A look his net worth, charities and more of the great philanthropist

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Ratan Tata is a man of great impact, and one of the most prominent philanthropists of the world.

Industrialist and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata celebrates his 85th birthday today, December 28. Apart from being a business tycoon, he is also a motivational speaker and a great philanthropist. He believes in running a business with humanity and he has dedicated a huge part of his wealth to the well-being of society.

Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai to Naval Tata and Sooni Tata. He went to Cornell University to study architecture and structural engineering in 1959 and briefly worked with Jones and Emmons in Los Angeles before returning to India in 1962.

Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962 and his first job was to work with the Tata Steel division in Jamshedpur. In 1975, he completed a management course at Harvard Business School.

In 1991, Ratan Tata took over as the chairman of the Tata Group.

At a time, when globalisation was a new concept in India, Ratan Tata took the lead with big acquisitions to take his group global.

Beginning with Tata Tea’s acquisition of Tetley in 2000, he went on to acquire about 36 companies in just 9 years. The most noteworthy acquisitions to date in India have been the Tetley acquisition by Tata Tea, Tata Steel’s takeover of Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus and the acquisition of British automobile major Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors.

His Net worth

Ratan Tata’s net worth was estimated to be Rs 3,500 crore last year according to IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List. He was ranked as the 433rd richest person in the country, which could be surprising to know for many.  The reason behind his low ranking is the large-scale philanthropic work that he does through the trusts and charity institutions managed by Tata Group.

Charities

Ratanji Tata, the younger son of Jamsetji Tata was the main contributor to the charity work done by the Tata Group. He had willed a large part of his property for charitable purposes and in 1919 the Sir Ratan Tata Trust was established with a corpus of Rs 80 lakh. Today, Tata Trust exists as one of India’s oldest and most respected charity foundations.

Tata Sons are the principal promoter entity of Tata group companies and 66 percent equity shares of Tata Sons are held by philanthropic trusts, which support health, education, art and culture and other charities. Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata group has made a significant contribution towards alleviating India from contemporary issues in the field of healthcare and education among others.
